November 17, 2025 &#8211; At the Compamed \/ Medica trade fair in Duesseldorf, Germany, Swiss packaging specialist Liveo Research AG is presenting an innovative new development for packaging medical devices: the &#8220;One-Material Tray&#8221; concept, or &#8220;OMT \u2013 The Circular Tray\u2122&#8221; for short.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b><\/b><\/p><p>It consists of a thermoformable PET film that can be used both for the packaging body (&#8220;tray&#8221;) as well as for the sealing film. The sealing film itself is fully printable and features easy opening utilizing a \u2018peeling mechanism\u2019.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>An additional unique feature of this one-material packaging concept is its improved environmental performance. The packaging is easier to recycle, and the concept can also include post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET. This makes OMT \u2013 The Circular Tray\u2122 a truly circular solution with the potential for a significantly lower carbon and overall environmental footprint compared to conventional multi-material trays.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>Magnus Elsaesser, Vice President Global MPI &amp; PPI EU at Liveo Research AG, explains: \u201cMedical packaging often uses a mix of different materials, such as PET-PE coated and lacquered papers.
